I made hot chocolate mix today. Spiced hot chocolate mix. Om nom nom nom! (Or should that be “slurp slurp slurp slurp”?)

My slipper snuck into that one.

(If you’re wondering, I use this recipe from Alton Brown, but then I add cinnamon, fresh nutmeg, and ginger for some extra flavor and interest.)

My mom was making homemade tomato sauce yesterday. I thought the pans of ingredients before cooking looked pretty neat, so I took a few photos.

Catalpa Tree – August 2011

I haven’t photographed the catalpa tree since November last year. It’s gotten so much bigger that I figured it’d be a good time to do another one.

Of course, that shot was not nearly interesting enough, and I really wanted to show the scale of the tree a little more. So…

That’s almost-six-foot-tall me holding the camera as far above my head as I can, and still barely clearing one of the lower branches!

And one of the leaves had some holes in it, which I thought made for some neat composition.

An Apple Tree at Sunset

The other day, the sunset made these neat golden bands on our apple trees.

These are sun pickles, which are tasty. But this morning there was a beautiful sunrise, so they were sunrise pickles for a little while.

Ramble ‘Round the Block

I went for a morning ramble around the block today and I took some photos.

I think the feet and camera lanyard add a certain charm to this one, and it’s my favorite of everything I took this morning.

I’ve always wanted to photograph a weeping willow, and there was one on my walk, so I did this.

Another view of those flowers. And I have no clue what kind they are.

And then there was this kitty staring at me, so I took its picture.

Five Flower Photos

I took a quick break from audio editing this morning and rambled outside with the camera (two cameras, actually). Here are the results.

Everybody photographs the tops of flowers, so I thought I’d be different. And then I noticed how this one lined up with the angle of the house and thought it’d make a neat framing.

I like the idea of the pink flowers blurred in front of a tree of white ones. Didn’t quite work out the way I wanted, but the blurry pink foreground is neat, I think.
